Players who are already tuning builds with D4 items can use Nightmare Ascensions as a steady source of gem materials instead of treating Gems as a side reward. The loop starts small, but it can keep going as long as you have Sigils to convert.

Start With the Right Ascension Setup

The important part is not simply entering a harder Nightmare Dungeon. You need an Ascension Sigil, such as Endless Gate or Forgotten Ruins, then begin climbing through the Ascension levels. Level 1 is only the opening round. Each completed dungeon leads into another choice, and that is where the system becomes useful. Before launching the run, open the Nightmare Dungeon Skill Tree from the Activities menu. Spend your available points on the branch route rather than leaving the board untouched. A lot of players miss this step, then wonder why their runs still feel like ordinary dungeon farming.

Why the Branch Route Matters

Unlocking the Branch Path Node gives you more than one way forward after an Ascension dungeon. Instead of being handed a single portal, you may see several Horadric Portals. After an Agni Dungeon at Ascension Level 1, for instance, three portals can appear. They are not just different doorways with vague promises. Each one lists the affixes and reward themes for the next area, so you can make a call before stepping through. Keep an eye out for details like these.

• Emerald Reserves when green fragments are the priority.
• Ruby Reserves for players building up red gem stock.
• Ancient Coinfall for extra currency during the same run.
• Horadric Caches or exploration bonuses when gems are not the only goal.

Pick the Reward, Then Clear the Dungeon

This is the bit that makes the farm feel targeted. Need Sapphires for a higher-tier craft? Skip the portal that offers a random-looking bonus and take the one carrying the Sapphire-related reserve when it shows up. Once you land in a later dungeon, perhaps Sunken Bastion or Goar Ruins at Ascension Level 2, the chosen modifiers become active. Clear the packs, finish the dungeon objective, and collect the payout. You will often get a useful stack of matching Gem Fragments along with completed Gems, rather than waiting on normal drop luck.

Keep the Loop Moving

The process does not have a hard finish line because regular Nightmare Dungeon Sigils can be changed into Ascension Sigils through the Horadric Cube. That lets you reset the chase whenever your supply runs low.
