Raipur - a spectacular offbeat destination in Chhattisgarh

Raipur is an ideal destination for an offbeat holiday experience. It is the capital of Chhattisgarh and a destination that is full of hidden tourism gems. Visit the city on next vacation and spend it exploring the attractions and allures.

Taking a break from the usual travelling habits, which have pretty much become a routine now, is a necessity to keep yourself interested in holidaying. No doubt that visiting your favorite destination on vacation as you have formed some attachments with the place is fun and often memorable. However, overdoing it simply kills the thrill and adventure that are associated with holidaying. You get familiar with all the tourist attractions and visiting them again and again becomes no more fun. It is therefore the travel experts advise taking the off-beaten path and discover some new destinations from time to time. The uncertainty of unknown is alone sufficient enough for making you excited about holidaying in a new destination. Besides, there are always some new experiences to be learned when you travel to a destination that you have never been before.

Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, is indeed an ideal place for spending the vacation. Tourism seems to be overpowered here and the place is most popular as being a large industrial centre. It takes pride for being one of the largest steel markets in the country and houses over 200 mills that roll steel and six large steel plants. The other major industries include coal, aluminium, and power. In addition to the aforementioned, Raipur is also known for its agricultural industry. Producing rice is too big here that many-a-times the place is touted as the Rice Bowl of Chhattisgarh.

Being the capital of the parent state as well as a major industrial city, Raipur is well connected to all major Indian cities. Within an average of 5 hours a Nagpur to Raipur train will ferry you to the upcoming city. Plus, there are regular trains from other major Indian cities. Besides, about 20 k.m. away there exists a small airport, with a couple of flights to serve the purpose.

A popular place of interest that you might like to visit is the Mahant Ghasidas Museum. It is an old museum, built by the erstwhile king of Rajnandgaon, Raja Mahant Ghasidas. It is an excellent museum and gives a glance on the history and culture of the city. Not too far from the location, there is another museum that is dedicated to the Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur. Apart from these, Mahakoshal Art Gallery and Doodhadhari Monastery are also worth visiting. They are the perfect mediums to learn and understand the art and the culture of the region. Besides, take some time out and visit Vivekananda Ashram, Mahamaya Temple, Shadani Darbar, and Budhapara Lake.

Shopping the unique handicrafts and the textiles that are adorned with highly detailed work like zardosi and zari is yet another major allure of the city. The place is especially known for its its world-class textiles and ethnic crafts. Besides, items made up of wood carving is also quite popular amongst the tourists.

It is ideal to skip visiting the place in the summer as the place stays too hot. The best time for a tour is between October and March. You can go ahead and book the flight tickets and hotel room in advance. The popular air carriers are IndiGo, Air India, and Jet Airways.
